REPRESENTATIVE INFORMATION
GPSC provides for representation of students from every degree and certificate program offered by SIUC’s Graduate School, the School of Law, and the School of Medicine. Members who maintain proper representation throughout the school year are considered voting members for the election every April.
How to become a GPSC member:
- Be an enrolled graduate or professional (law and medicine) student
- Be elected or appointed by your Registered Student Organization, OR if no RSO exists in your program, submit a petition of at least 10 signatures from students in the program (see Constitution for further details)
- Or, fill one of the five at-large representative seats (see Constitution and Bylaws for further details)
All new and returning GPSC members, and those interested in becoming one of the five at-large representatives, must fill out this membership form and submit it to gpsc@siu.edu or submit a paper copy to the GPSC Vice President of Administrative Affairs.

GPSC Constitution
The Constitution and Bylaws of GPSC set out the guidelines and operating procedures for how the governing body works.
President
- Chief executive of GPSC
- Notifies representatives of meetings
- Issues the agenda for each meeting
- Fills all committee appointments
- Responsible for Vice Presidents and office staff
The responsibilities of the officers may not be delegated, but the execution of such duties may be delegated by the officers.
Vice President for Administrative Affairs
- Chief financial officer of GPSC
- Certifies the credentials of all representatives
- Chairs the GPSC meeting in the President's absence
- Maintains and records GPSC’s financial affairs
- Appoints and chairs the Fee Allocation Board
- Responsible for travel and event funding requests
- Oversees the research award process
Vice President for Graduate School Affairs
- Communicates with all areas of Academic Affairs
- Member and the de facto chair of the GPSC Graduate Council Representatives
- Researches and reports on issues as required by the President or the Council
- Serves as a resource base for all graduate and professional students
- Meets regularly with the Dean and Associate Deans of the Graduate School
